Hello, my name is Donald E. Bailey, but those who know me call me Don. I hope this little biography gives you some insight into the experiences that have shaped me into the person that I am today. If you are considering becoming one of my valued clients, or even if you already are, I believe the information that follows will allow you to better utilize my knowledge and experience to help you with your land sale or purchase.

First, lets start from the beginning. I was raised in Clay County Illinois on a grain and livestock farm with five brothers and two sisters. Growing up, my parents had two important rules for me and my siblings. We were up at the break of day with lots of chores to complete and we went to church every Sunday, no exception to either rule. Much like others at the time, we too were raised the old fashioned way. We produced almost everything we needed on our farm with the strength of our backs and the sweat off our brow. We did not need much from town, so we did not find ourselves there very often.

I am a third generation farmer, and I operated a 3,400-acre grain farm for many years. I married my high school sweetheart Shirley, and we have been together ever since, more than 46 years. Together, we managed to make it through all of the ups and downs that life, and particularly farming life, throws at married couples.

Shirley and I have managed to raise four wonderful daughters and were lucky enough to see them all graduate college. We have spent our entire lives in rural Clay County and continue to have strong roots in this community. Shirley is a Licensed Practical Nurse licensed in Illinois and Missouri. She also holds a Real Estate Broker’s License in Illinois and a Broker Associate License in Missouri allowing the two of us to work together at Buy A Farm. My oldest daughter Danielle Birch lives in the Peoria Illinois area and also works with Buy A Farm as a licensed real estate agent.

I recently retired from the day-to-day operations of farming but continue to own and lease our farmland. This continued vested interest in farmland and farming requires me to stay on top of current issues facing the farming community. I have always been an avid outdoorsman. Presently, I find the most enjoyment taking a few trips each year with my buddies to hunt big game elk, caribou, bear and mule deer. I do still spend some time hunting deer, duck, geese, quail and squirrel locally.

I am happy to say that I am a co-owner of Buy A Farm Land and Auction Company, LLC and have been since its beginning, helping to shape the company from its infancy. I am Managing Broker of the Buy A Farm Flora Illinois office which my wife Shirley and I own together. I have been blessed with the honor of top gross salesperson for Buy A Farm in the past, and I am very grateful to be associated with the remarkable co-owners and people connected with Buy A Farm. I also hold a USA Private Pilot (Single Engine Land) pilot’s licenses and take many of the photos you see on Buy a Farm’s website.
