Swift's Vineyard was established and planted in May 1997 with two varieties of white French Hybrid grapes (Chardonel and Vignoles) using a single high wire trellis system. The approximate yield averages about 2-3 tons per acre for Vignoles and 5-6 tons per acre for Chardonel. Income from the vineyard averages approximately $12,000 per year with a range from a high of $17,000 to a low of $7,000 due to yearly weather factors. Out of approximately 2,200 vines, there are 475 newly planted grafted grape vines. They have replaced older vines previously removed and are more productive and disease resistant. The vineyard covers approximately 4 acres and is situated on a 12-acre tract. The Vignoles grapes have taken the Governor's Cup for white wine (the top award in the state of Illinois) in 2008 and 2016.
