Growing up in a small town in North Central Illinois, I quickly learned the importance that land played in everyone’s lives. Many of my friends and neighbors supported their families by working the land. I grew up spending my free time helping my grandpa raise hogs and cattle to feed the family or hunting and fishing with my dad on the weekends. While I was in high school, my family purchased some property in rural Marshall County and built a new home. This whole process intrigued me and eventually led to me pursuing an architecture degree from Illinois Central College.
In 2001, while at Illinois Central College, I stumbled upon a career in which I could combine my love for the outdoors and land with my love for planning and designing. While taking a surveying class, my professor, an Illinois Land Surveyor, asked if anyone had any drafting skills and would be interested in a part time job. I jumped at the opportunity and began the exciting journey I have been on ever since. About six months later, I changed my major to Land Surveying and transferred to Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. Soon after, I met my wife and stepchildren and bought a house of my own in Peoria County just north of Peoria, Illinois. I then finished my degree at SIUC and began looking for a new organization to work for while I pursued licensure as an Illinois Professional Land Surveyor.
I began working for Austin Engineering in 2007 and knew that I had found a place that I could grow with and help build for the future. I spent the beginning of my career there as a Land Survey Crew Chief and gained valuable experience working on a variety of projects from small lot surveys to large subdivisions. It was not too long before I worked my way into a project management role where I began helping clients realize the potential of their properties by putting them to their highest and best use. In 2011, my wife and I welcomed our wonderful son into this world. Soon after, I began to realize that I wanted a bit more from my career and desired to get to know the business side of things. At the suggestion of a friend, I began pursuing a Master’s degree in Business administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield. I graduated in 2014, and am now the Survey Manager for Austin Engineering and am working towards partnership within the next few years.
At the beginning of 2015, I realized that I really enjoyed helping clients maximize the value of their property and pondered other ways that I could help them do so. I came to the conclusion that becoming a Real Estate Professional was a natural transition for me and was one where I could apply my previous work experiences to help my seller client’s get the most out of their property or help my buyer client’s realize the potential of a particular property.
Whether you are planning to sell your property or are in search of that special piece of ground, my goal is to help you get the most out of your real estate transaction. My personal and professional experiences have taught me the importance that land has on our lives.
